New Public Report on CO2 Purity Released
We are pleased to announce the release of a public report focused on CO2 purity, which has become a critical issue in the carbon capture and storage (CCS) sector. With the Northern Lights project setting strict specifications for CO2 streams, achieving the required purity levels without costly pre-conditioning presents a significant challenge. This concern is particularly relevant for both the transport and storage of captured CO2, as well as its potential usage in various industrial applications, such as those in the SCOPE project.
Introduction to the Report
Capturing CO2 post-combustion is critical for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving the global goal of net zero by 2050. Among the available technologies, amine-based absorption is the most mature and is already in operation at several commercial plants.
The newly released SCOPE report explores the quality of CO2 captured from Waste-to-Energy (WtE) installations, focusing on its potential future uses, including in building materials or E-fuels. The report presents findings from an extended study conducted at Twence, a Waste-to-Energy plant in the Netherlands, where the quality of captured CO2 was carefully measured and analysed. These findings provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding CO2 utilisation, helping to address the requirements for quality and contaminant control when integrating CO2 into existing markets.
